Description: 

Musical Theater

Theatrical style of dance, portraying different characters, story-telling, and lip-syncing. Please note this class does not include vocal instruction. This class is for middle school and high school students.

We'll be looking at six different musicals, touring through each decade from the 1960s through the 2010s.

1960s - Sweet Charity
1970s - Chorus Line
1980s - Little Shop of Horrors
1990s - Beauty & the Beast
2000s - Wicked
2010s - Hamilton

Get ready to play a role, tell great stories and have a fantastic time!

What to wear: 

Musical Theater Ages 11 and up

  • Any style solid black leotard.
  • 'Bodywrappers' brand footed tights in 'jazzy tan': Child C30 or Adult A30
  • Note: if a bra is needed please wear a BLACK sports bra underneath black leotards
  • 'Bloch' brand 'Neo Flex' slip-on jazz shoes style in tan. Child Sizes  or Adult Sizes
  • Solid black dance shorts.
  • Hair pulled back please.
Teacher bio: 

Erica Schroder

Erica Schroder is a Boston-based choreographer, performer and teacher. Erica has performed in the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and all over New England with various companies including Urbanity Dance, a contemporary dance company rated Best of Boston 2012 by the Improper Bostonian. Erica is a founding member of Company Four, and recently choreographed and performed works in the Shared Choreographers Concert, Third Life Series, Parallel Lines and Boston Contemporary Dance Festival. Previous to dancing with Urbanity and Company Four, Erica performed with Forty Steps, a modern dance company in Nahant, MA. Before moving to the Boston area, Erica owned Stardancer Studios in Newport, NH for three years; her students received numerous high score awards, special judges awards and titles. Erica received five awards for Best Choreography and her studio received the Overall Studio Excellence Award from Omega Dance Challenge. In addition to teaching in private studios, Erica served as Adjunct Professor of Dance at Colby-Sawyer College. She has been a guest performer and teacher at the Vermont Annual High School Dance Festival and for the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education. Erica has a BFA in Dance with Teaching Certification from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Erica is the Director/Resident Choreography for the Dance Companies at J & D Dance Academy of Reading and is the Global Web Operations Manager at Bowers & Wilkins. Erica is proud to be a member of Dance Masters of New England Chapter 5, and Dance Masters of America. She serves as a Board Member for Dancers at Heart.
