This fairly new style of dance focuses on the more modern inspired movements of today. Ballet class is strongly recommended in addition to this class as Contemporary combines not only ballet techniques but elements of jazz and modern as well.
What to wear:
- Any style black leotard.
- Solid black dance shorts or solid black leggings (no colors or words on shorts).
- Bodywrappers brand stirrup tights in 'Jazzy Tan' Adult style #A32 or Child style #BC32
- Note: if a bra is needed please wear a BLACK sports bra underneath black leotards
- Bloch brand Eclipse Canvas Lyrical Shoe in 'Nude' #S0619 If ordering online, please read the sizing information
- Hair pulled back please.
Erica Schroder is a 25-year teaching veteran. Erica has performed in the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and all over New England with various companies including Urbanity Dance, a contemporary dance company rated Best of Boston 2012 by the Improper Bostonian. Erica is a founding member of Company Four, and choreographed and performed works in the Shared Choreographers Concert, Third Life Series, Parallel Lines and Boston Contemporary Dance Festival. Previous to dancing with Urbanity and Company Four, Erica performed with Forty Steps, a modern dance company in Nahant, MA. Before moving to the Boston area, Erica owned Stardancer Studios in Newport, NH for three years; her students received numerous high score awards, special judges awards and titles. Erica received five awards for Best Choreography and her studio received the Overall Studio Excellence Award from Omega Dance Challenge. In addition to teaching in private studios, Erica served as Adjunct Professor of Dance at Colby-Sawyer College. She has been a guest performer and teacher at the Vermont Annual High School Dance Festival and for the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education. Erica has a BFA in Dance with Teaching Certification from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Erica is the Director/Resident Choreography for the Dance Companies at J & D Dance Academy of Reading and has received numerous high score, special judges awards, as well as concept, entertainment and choreography awards from competitions. Erica is proud to be a member of Dance Masters of New England Chapter 5, and Dance Masters of America. She serves as a Board Member for Dancers at Heart.
